Request supplier test data and written guidance for the exact stone, thickness and finish before specifying exterior work.
Drainage, movement & winter exposure
Provide positive drainage and a properly prepared, compacted base. Confirm slope, setting materials, joints and movement details with your installer and the supplier. Standing water and saturated assemblies increase the risk of winter damage. Check deicing-salt compatibility; do not assume every natural stone tolerates salts.
